The company was founded by Josef Hardtmuth in 1790 in Vienna but soon production of graphite leads moved to České Budějovice in 1848. Koh-i-noor is mostly known for their mechanical pencils and excellent graphite leads. Many have tried to imitate these pencils but the Koh-i-noor remain the most popular ones and so the Versatil 5201 for instance has become an icon. Koh-i-noor's writing tools are of high quality, the design is both functional and attractive.
Why we like: wo do have a soft spot for no-nonsense companies who just continue doing what they're good at and produce high quality.
Our favourite product: the Automatic sketching pencil, with its big fat leads, a beautiful design and a body in heavy duty, solid steel.
